Now that you need a new monitor for your PC or TV and you are faced to choose the right one for you, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or LED (Light Emitting Diode) one. Basically both LCD or LED monitor has the same display screen technology namely the LCD itself.


All images and colors displayed on the screen both on PC or TV monitors can be seen because there is lighting at the back of the screen. Without it, the screen will only looked totally dark. As mentioned above both LCD and LED have same LCD screen, so what make both different when already at the market.

As consumers, we don't want to be bothered with the detailed technology they use. We only need basic but general what make them different to each other actually. From it we then can make decision which one of them is suitable for us, based on satisfaction and budget.

LCD monitor, both for PC and TV uses cold cathode fluorescent light (CCFL) bulb to activate the liquid crystals. The light produced by CCFL can be massive, strays and illuminates everywhere gives very bright light. This will influence the image on the screen which will look dull and poor in contrast. Becuse dark color can be looked slightly brighter and the bright color will looked much brighter.

While LED monitor uses emitting diode bulb to illuminate the screen. The light is direct to the front and slightly around, doesn't stray. Gives explicit and bold color. Black is black while white is white. Tough contrast. This of course influences the quality of images displayed on the screen. Very much suitable for graphical designer work and or watching film on HDTV.

CCFLs are much thicker than LEDs. This will influence the thickness of the screen. Means the final product uses LEDs will much thinner rather than LCD which uses CCFLs. Besides they currently install the LED at the edge of the screen not at the back side.The capasitors found inside the LEDs allow the LED monitors to consume less power than CCFLs used by LCD monitor. This will make you can enjoy your HDTV much longer without too worrying with your energy bill yearly.

So, LED monitor wins at all aspects againts LCD monitor? No. LED monitor PC or TV (HDTV) found more expensive than LCD PC or HDTV. The bigger the size the wider the difference in price. That is the fact we find at the market. Nevertheless, in long term LED is cheaper when already running in use, due to the lesser power consumption used by LED monitor.
